Op 21 juli brengt Blur The Ballad Of Darren uit. Het is de negende LP van de Britse band. Het album is geproduceerd door James Ford en opgenomen in Studio 13 in Londen en Devon, is het negende studioalbum van de band, hun eerste sinds The Magic Whip uit 2015, met als artwork een foto van de Britse fotograaf Martin Parr. Damon Albarn: “This is an aftershock record, reflection and comment on where we find ourselves now.” Graham Coxon: “The older and madder we get, it becomes more essential that what we play is loaded with the right emotion and intention. Sometimes just a riff doesn’t do the job.” Alex James: “For any long term relationship to last with any meaning you have to be able to surprise each other somehow and somehow we all continue to do that.” Dave Rowntree: “It always feels very natural to make music together. The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows is de tweede LP van Damon Albarn. Hij bracht het album uit eind 2021. Damon Albarn kennen we als frontman van Blur en zijn werk voor Gorillaz maar solo tapt hij uit een heel ander vaatje. Van Albarn weten we al langer dat hij een grote fan van IJsland is. In zoverre zelfs dat hij zich tegenwoordig half Engelsman, half IJslander mag noemen. Tijdens de pandemie trok hij naar zijn geliefde land en schreef en componeerde er dit album. Het is een ode geworden aan IJsland maar tegelijkertijd maakt hij zich op dit album ook zorgen over waar het in deze wereld naartoe gaat. Melancholische pop voor op mistige of druilige herfstdagen.
